Justice & Peace Group
Our Parish Group was formed in repsonse to the Catholic Church in Scotland’s decision to form, in 1979, the Scottish Catholic Justice and Peace Commission. The Commissions funtion has been to act as the Bishop’s advisory body on issues of social justice, international peace and human rights with the responsibilty for networking existing and newly formed local parish groups.
The St. Paul’s Justice and Peace group meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7.00pm. We currently are a small though very active group of 6 members with Fr. Alan Wilson also attending as an active member and Spiritual Director.
Our role in the parish is to raise awareness in matters concerning Justice and Peace issues. In the past 12 months the group has discussed issues affecting asylum seekers in Scotland; issues of nuclear proliferation; developing an eco aware parish; climate change and issues of poverty and deprivation. We also arrange a twice yearly Afternoon of Reflection on Justice and Peace issues. Our last afternoon took place on the 14th March 2010 and comprised an exhibition of Justice and Peace and SCIAF information; a small meal; three hours on silent reflection on four or five Justice and Peace issues. The afternoon ended with Benediction.
We would warmly welcome new members to come and spend an hour each month with us.
