Youth for Lourdes

The Diocesan youth pilgrimage to Lourdes 3-13 July 2011 will coincide with the Diocesan Pilgrimage.  If anyone is interested in going please see me as soon as possible.  Further details concerning the pilgrimage are on the poster in the porch.

Musical Minis

Learning made fun for pre-school children here in the hall on Mondays from 11am—12 noon. See poster in porch for further details.

Harvest Festival

Next  Sunday morning the children will lead us in the Liturgy where we will give thanks for this years Harvest. Please bring in offerings for the Harvest and these will be sold in aid of SCIAF after Mass.

Building Updates

The PPC has approved the installation of stained glass windows.  The final sizing of each window will take place this week.   When they are in place we will be in a position to replace the carpet and the flooring throughout the church.  I will be speaking to the electricians about new lighting within the Sanctuary and Jim Wilson Builders from Mauchline (who did the toilets) are working on costings for extending the bottom step at the Altar and enhancing the wood panelling around the Sanctuary.

PPC

The next meeting of the PPC will be this Wednesday after Mass.  There are several important issues that have to be discussed so could I ask for as good a turnout as possible.

 Music Ministry

Anyone who wishes to be involved in the choir or music ministry is invited to come to a meeting after Mass today.

Key list for hall

The hall is now being used more frequently by groups. Each group has a key to the hall.  I would like to have a full list of all parishioners who have a key to the hall.  Please add your name to the list in the porch. 

Rosary in October

Rosary will be said at 9.40am each morning from Friday.

Sacramental Programme and Primary 1 and Primary 4 Enrolment Masses.

The dates are now finalised for the Sacramental programme this year.

1. Sunday 24th October P1 Welcome and P4 Enrolment.

2. Wed 27th Oct Meeting in school with parents and children on Sacramental programme.

3. Wed 23rd Nov Meeting with P4 parents and children on Reconciliation.

4. Tues 7th Dec 7pm Celebration of First Reconciliation.

5. 21st Dec 10am End of term Mass

6. 28th Feb 7pm 25th Anniversary Mass of present school. Cathedral

7. 23rd March 7pm Meeting with Communion/Confirmation parents and children.

8. 15th May Celebration of Confirmation and First Communion.

The timetable for the year is now available for parents at the back of the church.

Papal Visit

Please remember to pick up the donation envelope to cover some of the costs of transportation to Bellahouston.  St Paul’s is committed to 105 pilgrims (cost £2100) SFX to 17 pilgrims (cost £340)

No visits this week.

Renovations in the Hall

Just to keep  you up to date on work around the church and hall.  The septic tank is now installed and up and running and the tidying up of the back of the yard at the hall is almost complete.  Unfortunately two manhole covers have gone missing so please keep well away from those areas.  The dry rot is being tackled in the hall and the appropriate area re-floored.  We are in the process of deciding whether to upgrade the single toilet by the old stage or the double toilet by the front door.

Songs of Praise

Dalmellington and Patna Waterside Church are have a songs of praise evening on 26th September at 6.30pm in Patna church.  Please keep this date free.

Tradecraft Autumn Fair

The annual Autumn and Christmas Fair will take place in St. Leonard’s Church Hall on Saturday 16th October 10am-4pm. Tickets at the door £2, Children free.  See poster for more details.

Mary’s Meals open Day

The annual open day takes place this coming Saturday 2pm-5pm in Wellington Church, 77 Southpark Avenue, Glasgow.  See invitation in porch.

Vocations Awareness Week

Beginning next Sunday we have a week of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life.

Missions Week

The annual Mission appeal was due last weekend but due to the Papal visit the Missions week with special collection for Pontifical Missions will begin on 24th October.

The Galloway podcast team will soon be recording the Advent podcasts. Anyone wishing to deliver a podcast is invited to contact me as soon as possible.

Fire Evacuation Plan

Both churches were inspected last week.  An evacuation plan will be devised for both churches—and tested at some point in the future.

Admission to Hospital

Please remember that if you are going into hospital and would like a visit from the hospital Chaplain it is very helpful that you fill in one of the hospital admission forms available in the porch.

I have spoken with some of the children’s liturgy group and we hope to have a Harvest Festival  Mass on 3rd October.  As in  previous celebrations we are invited to bring an offering for Harvest which will then be sold with proceeds going to SCIAF.

 Retired Clergy Collection

The annual collection for the Retired Priests of the Diocese will take place this weekend.  Tax payers are asked to pick up the yellow gift aid envelopes which will be available at the back of the church.

A considerable amount of time was spent at the PPC last Wednesday talking about the work to be done within the church.  The general feeling was that most of the money already spent  was on outside structural repairs and that there was little evidence of improvements within the church.  The PPC has approved the installation of stained glass windows which will be ordered this week.  When they are in place we will be in a position to replace the carpet and the flooring throughout the church.  I will be speaking to the electricians about new lighting within the Sanctuary and I should have word this week from Jim Wilson Builders concerning improving the appearance of the wooden panelling at the back of the Sanctuary.  I’m hoping all this will be done during the Autumn.

I’ll be meeting with Canon Keegans and Head Teacher of St. John’s tomorrow to discuss all the Mass dates for this academic year and parents evenings for the coming year.  These will be published next weekend.  A reminder to parents of P4/P5 children not at St. John’s to enrol their child on the parish programme.

News on the Papal Visit

Travel Arrangements

All pilgrims from St. Paul’s are to travel on the 1013 from Ayr Station to Cardonald.  Pilgrims from St. Francis Xavier’s will travel on the 1043 to Cardonald.  The bus from SFX will depart from the square in Dalmellington stopping at Doonbank and the Old Brig. Pilgrims from St. Paul’s are requested to assemble at Ayr Station no later than 9.45am. This is in order that the Pilgrim Leader (Celeste Teenan) has time to hand out rail tickets, wristbands and other essential information so that all Pilgrims can board the train together and travel together.  After the Papal Mass do not leave the designated area until our timing is called.  The timing for both parishes is 7.50pm.  Please try to walk together and when we arrive at Cardonald we will be escorted to our designated train.

The Pilgrim Passport

All families and individuals going to Bellahouston are asked to pick up the double sided A4 leaflet giving practical details of what you can bring and cannot bring to the Papal Mass.  Please read these carefully.  One item missing is that according to the Bishops website you may not use umbrellas.  Any questions please direct back to myself.

Photographic ID

Children do not require ID. Adults may take a driving licence or a bus pass.

World Youth Day

The 26th World Youth Day will take place in Madrid 16th-21st Aug 2011.  Any young person aged 16 by 31 Dec 2011 is eligible to go.  If anyone is interested please contact me.

SCIAF parish update

Sometime in the next few weeks one of our parish SCIAF representatives will give us a very short address updating us on SCIAF work.

Scottish Marriage Care

SMC are looking for individuals who may join their team of counsellors, after some training. These helpers would mainly assist the FOCCUS scheme in running pre-marriage courses. See the poster in the church for more details

Sam Kelly RIP

Sam died in Ayr hospital on Friday.  Reception on Thurs 6pm and Requiem Mass Fri 10am.

Scottish Catholic Observer

If anyone is interested in taking the Scottish Catholic Observer on a regular basis please let me know.  The circulation manager of the SCO will be phoning me on Tuesday.

 News on the Papal Visit

Mass booklets

Copies of the Mass booklets covering all the services in Scotland and England are available today.  Those who are going to Bellahouston are asked to pick one up and add it to the pilgrim pack which will be arriving soon. Those who are not going to Bellahouston but wish to follow the services on TV may wish to pick up a booklet today.  However those not going to Bellahouston may take the booklet for themselves and for neighbours with a suggestion of £2 donation per booklet.  Booklets will be distributed to all the sick and housebound.  Neighbours and Eucharistic ministers may take a free copy to the sick and housebound.  I will carry spare copies during my sick visits.

The Pilgrim Passport

Everyone is asked to bring some sort of photographic identification e.g. passport/driving licence.  Children do not need photographic ID if accompanied by an adult.  No news yet from Papal visit office on what constitutes valid ID.
